Treatment of Phobic Patients – Sedation
The unit is fully set up to offer intravenous (IV) sedation. The hospital setting makes the unit a very safe place to offer IV sedation. Patients undergoing complex surgical procedures, frightened patients and those with a severe gag reflex may be safely treated in this way.
Sedation relaxes the patient to such an extent that the surgeon may carry out the procedure under local anaesthesia.
A consultant anaesthetist is always present to administer the sedation, allowing the surgeon to concentrate on the treatment at hand. |
