After completing the dental degree in 1997 at the University of Malta, Nikolai proceeded with further specialisation in the field of Prosthodontics at the University of Toronto and obtained a Master degree in 2001 and doctorate in 2004. He moved back to Malta to work in private practice and soon after joined the academic staff at the Univ. of Malta. He is presently Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery and Head of the Department of Oral Rehabilitation and Community Care. Nik’s research interests include implantology, oral health and the rehabilitation of the edentulous patient with particular emphasis on the cost effectiveness of clinical treatment. He has lectured internationally on the topic and in 2006, and was awarded the Astra Tech Scientific Award in recognition of research in the field of Tissue Integrated Prostheses.
